Snack Size Review: The Source Code

Our own Tom Shaggy had the opportunity to see The Source Code in the theaters recently and decided to share his thoughts with us. Here is his Snack Size Review.

The Source Code

The Source Code is basically an action packed Ground Hog Day that probably would have been better off written as a short story rather than made into a feature film.  Sorry Jake, it’s not you, nor you Michelle, it’s just nearly impossible to take 8 minutes of time and stretch it across an hour and a half.  I had high hopes for this movie and much to my dismay, the trailer was much better than the actual movie.

The science behind the movie, which I have read is not so far fetched, is very interesting, but the story moves too quickly and you don’t really get a chance to come to fully “love” the main characters played by Jake Gyllenhal and Michelle Monaghan.  I wasn’t afraid of the antagonist, nor did I care at all what happened to his character.  Details are revealed too quickly, and as such, the ending becomes entirely too predictable.

Bottom Line

Is The Source Code entertaining? Absolutely, but this movie does not require you to see it in the theater.  Save it for a rainy afternoon when you can watch it on your high definition television from the comfort of your own recliner and an ice cold beer.

Snack Size Review: Red Riding Hood

Amanda Seyfriend in Red Riding HoodOur own Tom Shaggy had the opportunity to see Red Riding Hood in the theaters recently and decided to share his thoughts with us. Here is our first Snack Size Review.

It was everything I thought it would be.

I could probably end the review right there and you’d get just as much out of it.  Truth of the matter is, unless you are a seventeen year old girl waiting for Breaking Dawn you should probably stay away from this movie.  Actually, this movie is basically a poor-man’s Twilight minus the vampire.  The movie was predictable in every way from the first word that they uttered.

The low-budget, extremely tiny sets, and contrived special effects and script did not help their cause at all. The costumes were something out of a D-movie Robin Hood, right down to the unreasonably long red cape she is wearing at the end.  It is really too bad because had they made this movie into an R-rated horror for adults that was loosely based on a children’s story they probably could have saved some face.  With a cast like Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Billy Burke, Virginia Madsen, and Julie Christie they could have made just that.

Unless you are being dragged to the theater by a girlfriend or love interest it would a total waste of $10.25, which is a highway robbery anyway, wait for a late-night showing on TNT.
